Floppy Love

I have several floppy hats and rarely get the occasion to wear them out. I hardly take any stroll outside given the super hot weather conditions here in Malaysia. Being an island girl, I used to love being under the sun but ever since I've moved to Malaysia, I'm always hiding from it lol. Since I miss wearing my floppy hats, thought I'd quickly pair one with today's outfit just for picture purposes :)

The minute I saw these Topshop scarf print shorts, I knew it would make an excellent DIY project. Absolutely love the idea of making shorts using scarf fabric.

Within the very next day, I went fabric shopping with my mum and we bought two big square pieces of scarf printed fabric. Back home, I started flipping through my mum's old Burda magazines to get the right pattern to sew my shorts. It took me about 2.5 hours to sew one pair :)

I sewed another 3 pairs with some left over fabric that my mum had lying around the house. I will try my best to showcase all of them on the blog later. I decided to make the one below into a pair of paperbag waist shorts. So how do you find my version of the scarf print shorts? Would love to hear your feedback on the end result ;P

I'm definitely not the first blogger to have DIY-ed this bracelet but really wanted to show you guys how my Aurelie Bidermann Do Brazil inspired woven bracelet turned out. It's one of the easiest DIY projects I've ever done. Apologies if I'm not posting any tutorial but if you just google, you'll definitely find the tutorial on some other blogs.

Sunday Outfitting

First of all, Happy belated Chinese New Year everyone... with all the dinners and gambling going on, hardly had time to write a proper post.

Remember my previous post about the Beso Beso inspired DIY bracelets I wanted to make??? Well finally got around to making and wearing them to a Sunday lunch with my fiance's friends. I'm pretty happy with the results :) I made a bunch of them in all sorts of coloured gemstones so that I can mix and match with all my daily outfits. They're very easy to make and definitely cost you less than the real Beso Beso arm candies.

DIY Projects

Whenever I'm bored and have loads of free time, I turn into a DIY junkie! Saw these Beso Beso arm candies and Aurelie Bidermann Do Brazil woven bracelets on google images and instantly saved the pictures so that I can DIY them later. I have already bought all my supplies... and as you can guess, tomorrow is going be a fun day spent at home :) I can't wait to show you the end results in my next post, which will probably be when I get back to Malaysia and have my photographer again lol ;)

Oh Asos!

Ever since I've left UK last October, I've kinda stopped shopping on ASOS, which I used to browse for hours almost every single day! Guess I tried to con myself into thinking that:

1. ASOS doesn't do international shipping or shipping will be too expensive (total lie since ASOS offers FREE shipping worldwide hahaha),

2. I have too many clothes and shoes, which was a real headache to pack and bring over to Malaysia, and

3. I should start saving money and quoting from my dad: 'get my priorities right' (he complains I have too many shoes).

Anyway the point is I've missed ASOS so much that with the 70% off sale going on right now and an extra 10% discount on sale items, I couldn't resist and within a few clicks, my bank account went down by a few $$ with a big smile on my face. Told my fiance: it's my chinese new year presents (as if CNY= Christmas hahaha).

So now I can't wait for all these lovely items below to arrive. ASOS estimated the date of delivery to be on or before 26 January. I'm crossing fingers all goes smoothly since it's my first time trying their international shipping!

A sweet escape

These pictures were taken during our catamaran trips in the north and south east of Mauritius. Being a local, I always take it for granted that Mauritius has very nice beaches and lagoons. Guess it takes 5 years of studying abroad in the cold British weather to realise that I come from a paradise island hehe.

This holiday trip was indeed a sweet escape! Can't wait for our next trip back to Mauritius =)

These pics were taken at Intercontinental Hotel. Rented a room for one night to celebrate my friend's birthday. We got the ground floor room, which opens up onto the garden and beach area =) I managed to catch this nice view of the sunset from our room. The hotel gifted us this nice blue sarong, which I used to compliment my casual outfit.

Coloured Earth

My fiance and friend just left... they're going back to Malaysia/Singapore. Had an amazing 2.5 weeks of pure fun and laughter with them. Suddenly missing their company... my house so quiet without these two around :( Can't wait to join my fiance in about 2 weeks when I'll be moving for good to Malaysia.

Anyway, these pictures were taken while we were visiting the southern part of the island. Brought my fiance and my friend to the famous seven coloured earth of Chamarel. We also got to see our cute friend, the giant tortoise. We were blessed with excellent weather on that day since weather forecast predicted rain during the whole week!!!

Although I've paired this recently purchased printed blouse with plain white shorts, thought I'd give another go to mixing prints. So I decided to add just a hint of cheetah print in the belt and shoes in an attempt to make the outfit more 'out of the box', while still keeping the whole look quite simple and toned down.

Anyway, it's my last weekend in Malaysia for the year 2011 as I'll be spending Christmas and New Year back home (Mauritius). I'm so excited to go back... especially that it will be my bf and my best friend's first visit to Mauritius. Have so many things planned for them! I'm impatiently counting down the days :)

Ok, it's getting a bit late here... better get some sleep otherwise I'm gonna wake up super late (past lunchtime) and waste my Saturday!

Mixing Prints

Was a bit creative with this outfit and decided to pair this floral printed blouse with this graphic coloured pair of shorts. The see-through fabric of the blouse definitely helps in making this outfit look less heavy. Kinda like the end result. I should play around with prints more often... I'm usually not daring enough and used to pair anything heavily printed with something block colour.

Btw do you like my new backdrop? Dragged the unwilling bf to shoot right outside the house onto the street! Wonder what the neighbours thought of us? hahahahaha :)

I'm a big fan of jumpsuits. Such an easy-to-wear item of clothing... top and bottom combined in one really saves the hassle and time spent getting ready in the morning. I always like my jumpsuits with a nice print all over, then I don't have to accessorize a lot! I do find choosing and mixing accessories quite time-consuming. Most of the time I find myself ending up mixing the same bangles and wearing the same rings lol. Ah my creative juices running low! I need some inspiration or maybe this is the perfect excuse to shop more hehe ;P

Missoni for Target

After multiple visits to the nearest Target store, which luckily was only across the street from my sister's place, I managed to grab this gorgeous Missoni for Target blouse. I reached US a week after the collection was launched, so most of the nice pieces were gone or only left in huge sizes. Guess I was kinda lucky after my third round checking whether 'maybe' some small sizes were being restocked (which wasn't the case by the way) but this blouse magically appeared on the rack, which I'm guessing is probably a return! Anyway, I'm just happy I own a 'Missoni' blouse since I can't afford the real one hahahaha :)

Bought these shorts from H&M before I left UK after hunting for a small size in almost every H&M store in London. Imagine how ecstatic I was when I laid hands on a size 8!!! They're still slightly big on me but cinched with a belt, these shorts are perfect! I'm so in love with the floral print and the soft silky material.

Finally an outfit post! I've been back in Malaysia for almost a week now and been busy with the online shop (www.bbluvsme.com). But I'm glad to be back coz UK was getting a bit boring. At least here, work is keeping me busy!

Anyway back to today's outfit. Bought these cute shorts while holidaying in the US and they're really practical when it comes to the hot weather here in Malaysia. I thought the print was really cute with the little reindeers plus I don't own anything similar (another reason to buy right?!?!) I also invested in those platform heels from Steve Madden.... wore them for the first time to go clubbing on Friday at Club Neverland and no kidding, they're really comfy! Although still need to be a bit careful when walking on uneven grounds... but then that's where the boy comes to some good use hahahahaha!

Saw this online and knew I had to share the pictures with you! I am probably not the first one to but heck it, gonna post the pics anyway! I personally think that this is going to be the best designer collaboration with high street store. I'm loving the bright bold colours and the gorgeous prints, everything is so edgy, youthful and sexy.... wish I could still be in UK when the collection hits the stores on 17 November...argghhh :(

Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I have an addiction to jewellery... lucky only fancy ones!!! I'm not much of a diamond/pearl/tiffany person... I love my fake blings too much and the fact that I can pile them on like there is no tomorrow lol. So while holidaying in NY, I couldn't resist buying some more arm candies... loving the gold spike one as it mixes very well with any other coloured bracelets.

Oh and these cheetah print loafers are my favourite 'walking' shoes at the moment!!! I wouldn't mind another pair in snake skin print...saw one in Bloomingdales from Elizabeth & James but a bit pricey :(

A day at the beach

Weather was soooo good last Saturday, we all ended up heading to the beach...brought the kids out to play with the sand! Had so much fun watching my baby niece of 1 year old running away from the waves... she is not scared at all!

I'm leaving tomorrow back to UK for my graduation... I'm sooo gonna miss the kids!!! :( Then I'll be moving to Malaysia end of Oct... at the other end of the world and so far away from them :( Hopefully they'll come visit me soon!

Crunchy red apple

Last Sunday went apple picking with my nieces! We had so much fun although quite tiring. Such a hard job to pick apples as they were so high up in the trees. On the way back home, we all snoozed in the car lol.

Oh finally some sunshine tomorrow in NY and I'm definitely gonna hit 5th avenue. The weather has been quite rainy and gloomy the past week and I've been stuck home with the kids. A day at the Museum

First apologies for being extremely MIA on this blog but as you know I'm currently on holidays in the US and hardly had time to take decent blog pics. Been spending most of my days home playing with my two adorable nieces! I can definitely say that having kids is a FULL TIME job lol :P

Today we brought them to the National History Museum to see the gigantic dinos. Since I had my camera with me, I managed to ask my sis to snap a few pics to put on the blog, hence the sudden update! I was dressed very comfy and in flats- no way I can run after a 1-year old in high heels, she'll probably run faster than I do hahaha! Had a fun time at the museum... the animals on display there all look so real... definitely a MUST visit place if you happen to be in New York.

Trip down memory lane

I'm currently in Manchester... helping lil sis to settle in her uni accommodation. Feels weird to be back in a campus hall after so many many years! Small wardrobe space and tiny shower cubicle but uni was where I had the most fun and met so many wonderful people. Wouldn't mind going back to the 'fun' part of uni: party in the Student Union to the beat of RnB music hahaha :) But guess I'm too old for that now sigh... will probably end up with a backache! I better stick to lounge bars, sipping wine and light cocktails. Leave the fun part for lil sis.... my party days are soooo over :(

Went to Charlie Chops buffet yesterday to celebrate lil sis birthday. We had so much food! Think we tasted almost everything on the buffet menu :P Was a great night. Back home we watched the men US Open final sipping litres of hot green tea to digest all the food hahahaha. Such a great match... have to admit Novak was a real machine but I still love Rafa :P

Anyway here are some pics of the outfit I wore last night. Unintentionally I'm almost dressed from head to toe in Primark. I've been into full skirts lately and got this one on sale at only 3 gbp! I've also invested in some cool head scarfs.. they're really useful when I really dunno what to do with my hair nowadays.

Saw this colourful romper in the sale section in Primark and immediately grabbed it. Only 5gbp... couldn't resist hehe! I love how the floral print makes it very retro and the bold colours really make it stand out. Totally a good bargain :) Apologies if I've been wearing this oversized cardigan a lot lately but that's the only winter item I have left. I packed all my winter clothes to pass on to my lil sis, who just came to study here in UK, and since I'm moving to Malaysia, I definitely won't be needing them. I absolutely heart Primark for bringing in these skinny jeans in red wine. These jeans are really worth their 12 gbp I paid for... they're extremely comfy and the colour doesn't really fade after washing :) The only downside is that they're quite long on me.... I'm only 5'1! Was thinking of getting them shortened but on second thought, I actually don't mind them rolled up.

Not an outfit post today!!! Felt like doing something different on this blog and decided to share with you some of my recent buys. I realised that I bought a lot of summer clothes. Doughnut bun

My hair has grown really long, so felt like trying out a new hairstyle: the doughnut bun! Because of the layering in my hair, the bun is slightly messy but think I prefer the slightly messy style anyway.

Doughnut buns are so easy to do... got myself this bun shaper from Primark. All you need to do is tie a ponytail, insert the ponytail through the hole of the bun shaper, lean forward, spread the ponytail evenly over the bun shaper (like a palm tree) and stretch a headband over your hair. You can use bobby pins to secure the ends that are sticking out but I like mine messy (or maybe I'm just too lazy to pin my hair!).

Just sharing a few pics taken today. The sun was out and I decided to go for a shopping trip nearby with little sis. We had fun rummaging through vintage jewellery in second hand shops. We both got cool scarf pins!

I bought this cute top a few days back from Primark. I've spotted it like 2 weeks ago but in every store I went, my size was sold out. But last Sunday, I was really lucky. I randomly walked into Primark Ealing Broadway and here was my top: only one left in size 8 and it was on sale too :) YAY!

Took these pics a few days before I left Malaysia. The boy managed to catch a nice pic while I was swinging without using any flash. This requires quite a bit of skill coz the pics usually turn out very blurry. Hats off to him!!! Miss my photographer :P Being back to the UK, I will have to resort to my tripod again to take pics for the blog unless lil sis, who is coming next week, is willing to help!

Landed at Heathrow Airport this morning and the moment I stepped out, was already bitching about the british weather: 12 degrees, so bloody cold! Then learned about the riots all over London. I definitely chose the wrong time to be back :(

End result: I miss Malaysia... warm weather, the boy, friends, delicious homemade meals, dragon fruits, gigantic mangoes!

For once, I was glad it was slightly raining in KL as it wasn't too hot and just nice to chill out with the boy. Wore this new comfy dress, which is just perfect for the warm temperature here, and added a touch of glam with that statement necklace that I handcrafted. Spent the last few days enjoying KL life and now back to the boy's hometown for another week before heading to UK :) Oh yeah think I might have forgotten to announce it here but I successfully passed my bar exams... I'm over the moon! Can't wait for my call to the bar :P

Stiletto high

Bought these stiletto high heels last year and never wore them. They're really trendy with the wooden platform and stud details but to be honest I really cannot walk in them for long... I'll either end up twisting my ankle or hanging to my bf's arm for support :( So they're just perfect for photo shoots for the blog.

Was happily surprised to be selected among 20 bloggers to participate in the Missguided styling competition. The challenge consists of creating an outfit that I would wear to a social event that I would be attending this summer and I decided to go for the Garden Party theme.

The Outfit:

I've picked this outfit because this tiered dress is so romantic and reminds me of flower petals. The box bag in cheetah print definitely adds an edge to the outfit. The platform wedges are a definite must for some extra inches. And of course cannot attend a garden party without a floppy hat! I've chosen silver for the jewellery just to add a touch of glamour and the blue sapphire of the ring for a pop out effect.

I absolutely adore the colour of this blouse. Its thin see-through fabric is just perfect for the hot KL weather and no surprise I've been living in it for the past two days :P

Went to spend a last lovely Sunday in Hyde Park among friends. I feel quite sad leaving London though I'll be back in a few months to call to the bar but it won't be the same anymore :( Had a lot of fun this past year thanks to all of them but guess now it's high time to say goodbye to my 'student life'!

Simple DIY project and decided to give my Primark floppy hat an 'extreme makeover' haha.

Took a random spare belt, tied it into a nice big bow and secured it to the hat using my mum's vintage brooch.

A royal get-a-way weekend

After spending easter holidays stuck home being a book worm... this little post-exam get-a-way weekend to Manchester city was well deserved. Such a beautiful city and Trafford Centre is definitely a must-go place to visit. The interior decor was simply royal-esque.

Hope you all had a lovely royal weekend. And so glad tomorrow is a bank holiday cos I'm in need of some serious sleep!
